Midnight Specials
The Pact
USA, 2012, 91 min., Color

Based on the short film of the same name, THE PACT begins when Annie begrudgingly returns home to attend the funeral of her mother. As she sorts through her mother’s estate, she feels something unfamiliar and unsettling in the home. Annie seeks help, both professional and supernatural, and starts finding clues to a past she never knew existed. The deeper she seeks the truth, the more her world becomes a nightmare…

Nicholas McCarthy returns to DIFF this year with a sharp mix of ghost story and thriller, carefully manufacturing suspense and terror as the mystery of the haunted house twists, turns and unravels. You’ll want to go home and turn on all the lights after it’s over. (We did.)
