Miss Sharon Jones!
USA, 2015, 93 min., Color
Sharon Jones is a force. Known as a female “James Brown,” she sang and performed for years, but struck it big later in life after connecting with the soulful, funk band “The Dap-Kings.”

Just as her star is rising, and on the eve of the release of their new album, Jones is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Tour dates are cancelled and the album’s release pushed back as Jones is forced to fight for her life. Legendary and Academy Award-winning director Barbara Kopple follows Jones over the course of a chaotic and courageous year, as Jones struggles to keep her band and career together while she undergoes cancer treatment.

Kopple masterfully crafts a raw and emotional look at this talented, dynamic and passionate artist. Jones is determined to follow her dreams despite any obstacle. The power of music to heal has never been more apparent than it is in MISS SHARON JONES!.
